How to start your morning to guarantee success.
Changing your morning routine to guarantee success sounds like a big call. But it's a super power harnessed by successful people all over the world and there's no reason you can't learn it too. By understanding the bad habits that break us and the good habits that make us; you can turn on your ability to acheive whatever you want in a day, week or year.
To begin - stop! Don't touch that phone.
I know it's calling you. That electronically charged dopamine hit. It's so easy to spend 5,10 or even 15 minutes scrolling first thing in the morning. But what is that aimless scrolling costing you? Is there a better way to start your day that will set you up to succeed at your goals?
Sure is! That social media scrolling or email checking habit you've got actually means you're allowing someone else to set your intentions for the day. Those crucial first moments of awareness are spent comparing, seeking validation from the outside world. Instead of internalizing, checking in, self evaluating and creating your own beautiful endorphin rush.
I'm not judging. I've been there. In fact, I'm currently back there. My phone addiction, at the time of writing this, is out of control and I need to fix it. And just like all habits, it's a cycle that I need to commit to breaking to fix.
- Moved my body
- Set my intentions
I am so bad at meditation, but I think that's the point. I sit there banishing my thoughts over and over; then I feel like all I did was argue with myself for fie minutes. But from the reading I've done, it's meant to be a mountain you're climbing one step at a time. You don't start at the top of the mountain at "Level: Buddha". It's meant to be step by step, day by day until finally you realise you've got better. It's definitely not hippie hocus-pocus either. Scientific studies have revealed that "mindfulness meditation can have long-term beneficial effects in the treatment of people diagnosed with anxiety disorders." (you can read the study here)
I want to start my day on my terms. Do you have a morning routine? Have you broken your phone habit? Share below your top tips for tarting the day on your own terms and ensuring a beautiful, motivated morning.
